Version 1.2 · Updated 12 August 2026

Draft. This is the product team’s description of how MyConnects actually behaves, written so it can be reviewed — it has not been through counsel yet, and it is not binding until it has.

In plain words

  • Your contacts are matched on hashed values. We never store the names in your phone.
  • Precise location is never the default, and never appears on your public page.
  • You decide who can see your connections, your vouches and your profile.
  • You can export everything, and deletion means deletion.
  1. 1.What we collect

What you give us: your name, username, email, phone, and everything you choose to put on your profile and page.

What you do here: who you connect to, who you vouch for, what you ask, what you save, which pages you view. This is what makes recommendations work; without it Ask MyConnects has nothing to rank.

Technical data: device and browser, approximate location from your IP address, and the security events we need to spot a compromised account.

  2. 2.Contacts, and how matching works

If you turn on contact sync, your device computes a one-way hash of each phone number and email address and sends only those hashes. Names, photos and notes never leave your device.

We compare those hashes against hashes of verified numbers and addresses on MyConnects, and tell you which of your contacts are here. A hash that does not match is discarded rather than kept for later.

Turning contact sync off deletes the stored hashes and the matches derived from them.

  3. 3.Location

Location is off until you turn it on, and you choose the precision: city only, approximate to a few kilometres, or precise while you are actively using Nearby.

Precise location is used for the session and is never shown on your public page or attached to your profile.

Telling the network you will be in another city stores a city and a date range, nothing finer.

  4. 4.Your graph, and who can see it

Your connections can be visible to everyone, to your network, to your direct connections only, or to nobody. The default is your network.

Whatever you choose, MyConnects still uses your graph to find paths for you. What changes is what other people are shown: with connection visibility off, someone can be told that a route exists without being told who is on it.

Vouches carry their own visibility. A private vouch counts towards trust without being published.

  5. 5.How Ask MyConnects uses your data

Answers are built from structured systems — profiles, the relationship graph, trust signals, location, events and opportunities. A language model reads what those systems returned and writes the explanation.

The model is not the database. It is not asked to recall people, and it cannot surface anyone the underlying permission rules would not have shown you.

Your questions are stored so you can return to a conversation, and are not used to train models for other companies.

  6. 6.Sharing

With other people on MyConnects, according to your privacy settings.

With processors who run parts of the service for us — hosting, email and SMS delivery, payments, identity checks — under contracts that bind them to these terms.

With authorities where the law requires it. We tell you when that happens unless we are prohibited from doing so.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not run third-party advertising.

  7. 7.Keeping and deleting

We keep your data while your account is open. Verification documents are deleted once the check is finished — we keep the result, the date and the document type.

Deletion is scheduled 30 days ahead and then runs across our systems, including backups, within a further 30 days.

You can export everything we hold about you at any time, from Settings, as a single readable file.

  8. 8.Your rights, and reaching us

You can see, correct, export and delete your data, object to a use of it, and withdraw a consent you gave earlier — all from Settings, without asking us first.

If something is wrong and the product cannot fix it, write to privacy@myconnects.com and a person will answer.
